Boat Fishing Trip, 15th August 2022 at Benson Marina
This month, we arranged a trip out with Wallingford Accessible Boat Club to attempt some river fishing on their wheelyboat. We were joined by Tim and Roger, two local Enrych members who are both experienced anglers and their wives Pat & Jenny.
The boat has been specially adapted to allow wheelchair access via a drop-down ramp at the back so getting on board was a breeze!
After travelling downriver for a while, the boat crew pulled us into a small section to the side where we were able to cast off and drop our lines in the water.
Good things come to those who bait!
With seasoned professionals like Roger and Tim on board we were hoping for some excitement and sure enough, within a short time Tim had got himself a couple of bites! Roger followed shortly afterwards with another catch and then our very own Sue (or Captain Ahab as she'll now forever be known) reeled in another!
A Leggy Bird
We were even treated to a lovely view of a heron on the way back to the marina. Think it was probably looking to Tim, Roger and Sue for some fishing tips!
Hook, Line & Sinker
Bobbing along on a boat on the river is very relaxing and I think we could have happily stayed there all day but it was soon time for ourselves to be reeled in. The boat team helped us to shore where we handed back our life jackets and returned to life as land lubbers.
Wallingford Accessible Boat Club is a charitable service that's available to anybody with a disability. They currently board at Benson Marina, near Wallingford but work is underway to build a permanent slipway for them in Wallingford itself. They take bookings throughout the summer and more information can be found on their website at www.wabc.org.uk.
